Now I am hearing that the Jail is
overcharging inmates for cigarettes. I know that cigarettes are bad
for you, but $4.00 a pack is just a little steep don't you think sheriff.
Especially when you are buying the cheapest off-brand cigarettes that you
can buy. I am also told that you will not let people bring underwear
and t-shirts to the inmates, and that you are charging double for these
items that can be bought on the street cheaper. You are not supposed
to make a profit in the commissary, and if you are making a profit where is
it going too? I have heard some more things about commissary prices, but I
won't post those just yet, because I have not had the information verified
completely. I would say Appointed Sheriff Reed that the sheriff's
department is gouging a captive audience. Just because people are
locked up behind bars does not mean that you should take advantage of them,
and their families who are supplying the money to their commissary accounts.
I have also heard some things about charging for other things that I am
going to check on to see if you are supposed to charge for. The people
outside the jail who are supporting the inmates whom you have locked away
might just not like it when the S.O. is taking them to the cleaners
overcharging for things that are already unreasonable on the outside but
totally off the map in the commissary. |
